Tuesday March 15th, we got after it with a full day showcase featuring an impressive range of touring talent.  We teamed up with our friends Mas Music Records a local indie record label and Play to the Plants a local broadcasting company, at our favorite south Austin venue The Far Out Lounge for The Stoned Roses Fest.

The day kicked off with Rocking Chair Reality Room, a band new to the Mas label and quickly claiming their spot in the Austin music scene. Up next, the crowd welcomed our Canadian friends JayWood and FRANKIIE for a couple of groovy psych rock sets. Egg Drop Soup lead the daytime wind up, an all-womxn fierce rock powerhouse from LA followed by the talented Chicago artist Ezra Furman the crowd singing along to the cheery and inspiring lyrics.

Self-proclaimed Sad Boy Indie Rocker Blvck Hippie from Memphis delivered a mix of unique melodies and lyrics making us reflect on loneliness, even surrounded by the crowds of SXSW.  As the sun began to set, Carinae brought the vibe up a notch, creating a groovy soundscape with swirling vocals. Mattiel, appropriately dressed as a futuristic force, gave us a new perspective on sounds coming out of Atlanta.

Mixing it up a bit, JBABE, a solo artist all the way from India, enchanted us with his unique style, mood and personal flair.  The evening was dominated by heavy sounds, with psych rock group Oregon Space Trail of Doom greeting the darkness.  Brooklyn-based but Texas bred Venus Twins went full sludge punk with a half hour of nonstop action, their energy had the crowd exhausted but still wanting more.  DAIISTAR had us sonically entranced beneath the Mad Alchemy liquid light show dancing on the tent ceiling.   Rounding out the incredible day,  we had back to back womxn punk groups, Bad Waitress from Toronto and CHERYM, all the way from Northern Ireland.

You may not be familiar with the artist, you may not know the song, you may not know the stranger next to you, but it doesn’t matter, because you are all enjoying a live music experience.
